HUAWEI FreeBuds 6 Review
Open-fit wireless earbuds combining dual-driver audio, active noise cancellation, lossless-capable transmission, clear-call technology and fast charging.
FreeBuds 6 Quick Specs
Huawei FreeBuds 6 Overview
The HUAWEI FreeBuds 6 are open-fit wireless earbuds built around a dual-driver audio system, combining an 11 mm dynamic driver with a planar diaphragm driver. Huawei also lists analog crossover, adaptive EQ, active noise cancellation and call-noise cancellation as part of the audio system.
The earbuds weigh approximately 4.9 g each, while the charging case is about 40.3 g. Huawei lists Bluetooth 5.2, dual-device connection support and several high-resolution audio codecs, including LDAC and L2HC 4.0.
The FreeBuds 6 combine an open-fit wearing style with ANC, dual-driver sound and high-resolution transmission options—an unusual mix for users who prefer a less-sealed earbud design.
Audio & Dual Drivers
Huawei uses an 11 mm dynamic driver plus a planar diaphragm driver. The company says the planar driver is designed for detailed high frequencies, while the dynamic driver handles powerful bass. Huawei also lists a separated triple-system architecture and adaptive sound processing.
Supported codecs include SBC, AAC, L2HC 4.0 and LDAC. L2HC 4.0 requires compatible Huawei devices running supported EMUI versions, so the highest-end transmission features depend on the phone or tablet being used.
Open-Fit ANC
The FreeBuds 6 use an open-fit ANC design. Huawei positions the ANC system for reducing surrounding noise in environments such as offices, cafés and public spaces while retaining the open-fit form factor.
Because open-fit earbuds do not seal the ear canal in the same way as conventional in-ear designs, the perceived isolation can differ from strongly sealed ANC earbuds. The exact result also depends on ear shape and surroundings.
Calls & Smart Controls
Huawei lists call-noise cancellation and a bone-acoustic sensor among the FreeBuds 6 sensors. The company says the earbuds identify the user's voice during calls and are designed to maintain clearer conversations in noisy environments.
Controls include double-tap, triple-tap, swipe gestures for volume and press-and-hold actions. Huawei also supports voice-assistant activation and noise-control switching through the controls.
Battery & Charging
Each earbud has a listed 39.5 mAh minimum-capacity battery, while the charging case is rated at 510 mAh minimum. Huawei quotes up to 6 hours per charge and 36 hours with the case with noise reduction off when connection quality is prioritized. With noise reduction on, the corresponding figures are up to 4.5 hours and 27 hours.
Huawei also advertises 5 minutes of charging for up to 2.5 hours of music playback under its specified test conditions. The case supports USB-C wired charging and wireless charging up to 2 W.
Huawei's battery figures are laboratory results and vary with volume, codec, ANC, connected device, environmental interference and usage habits.
Comfort & Design
The FreeBuds 6 use Huawei's droplet-inspired open-fit shape. Huawei says the handles are 12% smaller and the earbuds 9% lighter compared with FreeBuds 5, based on its laboratory comparisons.
Each earbud measures approximately 30.6 × 18.5 × 24.0 mm and weighs about 4.9 g. The charging case measures 66.2 × 49.9 × 26.8 mm and weighs about 40.3 g.
Water & Dust Resistance
The earbuds carry an IP54 rating. Huawei explicitly states that this rating applies to the earbuds themselves and not the charging case. The rating is for normal splash, dust and water resistance and is not permanent.
Keep the charging case away from water and avoid charging the earbuds or case in damp conditions. IP54 should not be treated as a swimming or immersion rating.

Frequent Callers
Call-noise cancellation and bone-acoustic sensing are designed around clearer voice pickup.
Multi-Device Users
Dual-device Bluetooth connections can be useful when switching between compatible devices.
Fast-Charging Users
The 5-minute quick-charge claim can be useful when you need short top-ups.

Final Verdict
A feature-packed open-fit earbud option
The HUAWEI FreeBuds 6 stand out for combining an open-fit design with dual-driver audio, ANC, high-resolution codec support and advanced call processing. The 4.9 g earbuds also keep the hardware relatively light.
The strongest reasons to consider them are the audio architecture, LDAC/L2HC 4.0 support, dual-device connectivity, fast charging and Huawei's call/noise-control features. However, the best experience depends on device compatibility, especially for L2HC 4.0 and some ecosystem features.
The IP54 rating is useful for the earbuds but does not extend to the charging case, and Huawei's battery figures should be viewed as test-condition maximums rather than guaranteed everyday runtime.
